What is bitcoin foundations?

Bitcoin is digital money that nobody owns and everybody can use. It was launched in 2009 by an anonymous developer named Satoshi Nakamoto with one goal: to give people a way to hold and send money without needing a bank, a government, or any other middleman.

Underneath the technology, Bitcoin is a simple idea — a shared, public ledger of who owns what, kept honest by a global network of computers. Anyone can run that software, anyone can verify the rules, and nobody can change them after the fact. That is the difference between Bitcoin and every other form of money in history.

A Bitcoin foundations course should give you four things: the story of why Bitcoin was needed, the basics of how it actually works, the units (BTC and sats) and how to think about them, and the confidence to take your first practical step — making your first wallet and receiving your first sats.

What you'll learn

  • 1Explain Bitcoin to a friend without falling back on jargon
  • 2Read a Bitcoin block explorer and know what you're looking at
  • 3Switch fluently between thinking in BTC and thinking in sats
  • 4Set up your first self-custody wallet from scratch
  • 5Receive your first satoshis safely and verify they arrived
  • 6Make a confident case for why the 21 million supply cap matters
  • 7Filter out the misinformation that dominates Bitcoin Twitter

Why it matters

Most people learn about Bitcoin from price headlines. Price is the noisiest signal there is. By the time a family member is curious enough to ask, they have usually already absorbed half a dozen myths — that Bitcoin is anonymous, that it is mostly used by criminals, that it is going to zero, that it is a stock. None of that is true, but it takes structured learning to replace those impressions with accurate ones.

Foundations matter because every single decision later — how you store sats, whether to use Lightning, what to do about scams, how to teach your kids — depends on understanding the basic shape of the system. Skipping the foundation is the single biggest reason people lose money in this space. Build the base properly and the rest is straightforward.

Earn Bitcoin while you learn

Every lesson ends with a quiz. Pass it, the sats land in your self-custody wallet automatically — your keys, your control. Subscribers also earn 50% sats-back on every payment, monthly. The only Bitcoin platform where the lessons pay you instead of the other way around.

How we teach bitcoin foundations

We start with the story. Why money has changed shape so many times over human history — shells, cattle, gold, paper, digital — and what kept failing each time. By the time we introduce Bitcoin, the question is not "why did someone invent this?" but "why didn't we have it sooner?".

Each lesson is short — five to ten minutes. You read, you do a quick quiz, you earn sats. The sats land in your own self-custody wallet. The reward isn't points or stars; it is the same kind of money you are learning about. That makes the lessons stick in a way no textbook does.

Diagrams over paragraphs wherever possible. Concepts like the blockchain or how transactions work are much easier to grasp visually than in prose, so we lean on illustrations that the kids can follow too.

Family-friendly throughout. The same course works for a curious 12-year-old and a 50-year-old picking it up for the first time. We assume nothing.

Frequently asked

Do I need any prior knowledge to start?

No. The foundations courses assume nothing. If you can read and use a phone, you can take them. We define every term the first time it appears.

How long do the courses take?

Each lesson is 5-10 minutes. A full foundations course is usually 30-60 minutes total, split across several lessons you can do whenever.

Will my kids understand this content?

The adult foundations course is written at a reading level a curious teenager can follow. For ages 9-14 we have a separate kids catalogue with the same ideas but more illustrated and story-driven.

Do I need to buy any Bitcoin to learn?

No. You earn sats by completing lessons and quizzes. By the time you finish the foundations course you'll already have your first sats in your wallet.

Are the sats earned spendable Bitcoin?

Yes. The sats land in your self-custody wallet — your keys, your coins. You can spend them, send them, or save them.
