Sats

Short for satoshis — the smallest unit of Bitcoin. 100 million sats = 1 BTC.

A sat (short for satoshi, plural "sats") is the smallest unit of Bitcoin. There are 100,000,000 sats in 1 BTC. Most everyday Bitcoin amounts are denominated in sats — sending 5,000 sats is more natural than sending 0.00005 BTC.

Why think in sats? Because the unit is the right size for everyday use. Coffee is around 5,000 sats. A meal might be 50,000 sats. A monthly subscription a couple thousand. When you frame Bitcoin in sats, the abstract number stops feeling abstract.

Every reward you earn on BTCBitByBit is denominated in sats — completing a lesson earns 100-200 sats, sats-back on subscriptions arrives weekly. The wallet shows your balance in sats by default for the same reason.
