Why teach kids Bitcoin?

Most kids in 2026 will spend their adult lives in a financial system that looks nothing like the one their parents grew up in. They will inherit a monetary environment shaped by inflation, surveillance, and digital money — and they will have to make decisions in it every day. The traditional financial-literacy curriculum doesn't cover any of this. We do.

Bitcoin is the most accessible way to teach the underlying ideas. Sound money. Saving habits. The difference between custody and ownership. The compounding magic of long-term thinking. These ideas don't land from a textbook — they land when a kid earns their own sats and decides whether to spend or save them.

We're not asking your kid to become a Bitcoin trader. We're giving them the foundation to understand a piece of infrastructure they're going to encounter for the rest of their life — and to do it before bad information gets to them first.

What your kid will be able to do

  • Explain Bitcoin to a school friend confidently and accurately
  • Spot scam messages and know exactly what to do when one arrives
  • Manage their own wallet with parent-approved transactions
  • Save toward a goal and watch their sats add up over time
  • Tell the story of money — shells to satoshis — at the dinner table
  • Explain inflation in pocket-money terms and why prices keep rising
  • Send sats to a sibling or friend over Lightning (with parent approval)
  • Recover a wallet from seed phrase under adult supervision

How it works

  • 1Parent signs up first. You create your account, set up your own wallet, and add your kid as a family member.
  • 2Kid gets a supervised account. Their own wallet, their own learning progress, but you have full visibility through Family Corner.
  • 3Kid completes lessons. Each lesson is 5-10 minutes. They read, take a quick quiz, and earn sats automatically when they pass.
  • 4You set chores in sats. Chore management lets you fund tasks (clean room: 100 sats; finish reading: 200 sats). You approve completion. The sats arrive in their wallet.
  • 5They save, spend, or send — with your oversight. Bitcoin. Real decisions. Real lessons in a safe environment.

Family Corner — built for parents

Family Corner is the parent-side dashboard. From it you can see exactly what your kid is learning, what they've earned, what they're trying to spend on, and what chores are outstanding. You approve every transaction that leaves their wallet. You set the chore catalogue. You watch the progress bar fill on their first course.

It is not a surveillance tool — it is a teaching tool. The conversations Family Corner unlocks ("why didn't you save this week?", "why do you want this app rather than that one?") are the actual education. The sats are just the catalyst.

Safety, by design

Safety is the constraint we built the kids product around. Specifically:

  • No social features. No chat, no DMs, no profile pages, no follower count. Strangers cannot reach your kid through the app.
  • Parent approves all transactions. No sat leaves the kid wallet without your sign-off.
  • Self-custody, with training wheels. Kids learn the principles of self-custody but their seed phrase is held in a parent-supervised flow until they're ready to manage it independently.
  • Scam education built in. Phishing, fake support, address poisoning — kids learn to spot these in the same flow that adults do.
  • No KYC required. Self-custody Bitcoin education — no ID verification, no data shared with third parties.

Parent FAQ

Is BTCBitByBit safe for my child?

Yes. Kid accounts are created and supervised by parents through Family Corner. Kids never expose their seed phrase. Parents fund chore rewards, approve completion, and can monitor transactions. There is no way for a kid to send sats to a stranger without parent approval, and there is no chat, no DMs, no social-network surface.

How young can a child start?

The kids catalogue is designed for ages 9-14. Younger kids can use the platform with a parent reading lessons aloud — much of the content works as a parent-and-child exercise. Older teens generally graduate to the adult catalogue.

Do kids need their own subscription?

No. The Premium family plan covers up to 5 kid accounts plus a second parent account. Kids never need their own subscription — that is a deliberate design choice.

What if my kid wants to spend their sats on something silly?

That is part of the point. Real money teaches real lessons. We give parents oversight (transaction approval, withdrawal limits, parent-only spending rules) so the lessons happen in a safe environment — but we don't pretend Bitcoin is play money. The discomfort of "should I spend or save my sats?" is the whole education.

Can I see what my kid is learning?

Yes. Family Corner shows every lesson completed, every quiz answered, every sat earned. You can see exactly where your kid is and what they are exploring next. You can also re-take any lesson yourself.

Will my kid actually understand this?

Yes. We have spent a lot of effort on language, examples, and pacing. A 10-year-old who can follow a chapter book can follow our kids courses. We use stories about pocket money, sweet shops, and shared toys to make abstract concepts concrete. The quizzes confirm comprehension before unlocking the next lesson.

How do I explain Bitcoin to a 9-year-old?

Honestly, you mostly don't have to — that is what the courses are for. The first lesson uses examples a 9-year-old already understands (saving for a toy, why some pocket money buys more than other pocket money) and builds from there. Most parents find their kid is teaching them by week two.

What does a kid actually do with the sats they earn?

Save, send, or spend — with parent approval. Many parents use earned sats as the kid's long-term Bitcoin position. Others let kids withdraw for a treat or send a small amount as a birthday gift. The point is that the sats are real, so the choices are real.
